Job Ads by Singapore Airlines?

I came across this post shared to the Singapore Free Classified facebook public group. While one can tell that this is not the legitimate job ad by Singapore Airlines straight after the first glance, out of curiosity, I spent a few minutes trying to find out the gimmick behind it. Salary of $9800 for a general worker does sound attractive isn't it? Furthermore, there already 41 shares within 17 hrs, and many has already provided their email id in the comments as instructed.

How do they steal?

So upon clicking on the image with 'Apply Now' that trying hard to act as a button, I am brought to the website of uptodatejobs.com. Unsurprisingly, it is a simple wordpress site applied with standard template that is full of Google Adsense advertisements. I am not sure why there must have several spelling or grammatical errors that you can easily spot on, and still expects visitors to subscribe to blog (wait, you mean this is a blog site?) via email though.

Out of goodwill, I've helped by clicking through the links and contributed the advertising revenue to the site owner. What surprised me was that the page itself has already been viewed 310,952 times! WOW! The owner must have his pocket fully filled with payment from Google!

Mouseover the 'Apply Now!' and you can see that the link points to a shorten URL. I will be surprised if there is nothing fishy behind the link. Clicking through the link, i was brought to another website called careertracing.com, which again is another simple wordpress site applied with standard template filled with junk stuff and of course full of advertisement, advertisement and advertisements.

What's the turn off?

Clicking anywhere on the page (yes, click on anywhere!), you will be prompted with the dialog box to sign in to your LinkedIn account. Good luck to you if you fill up your LinkedIn ID and password without thinking twice.

How many innocent victims?

So how many people have visited these sites? Let's find it out using 2 of the more popular web traffic measurement reporting sites.

Wow! 104K visits in a month! How many more articles do I have to write in order to get such traffic :(

Who's stealing?

The masterminds behind this? 2 persons (or, a person with 2 identities) that stay nearby and shared the same phone number.

What was stolen?

Time of Facebook users, advertisers' expenses on Google Adwords, credibility of the Facebook public group, social network of the innocent LinkedIn users, reputation of Singapore Airlines, etc, plus my time for this article and your time to read this article. Ooops...
